Events

We are all committed to providing you with the best possible foundation for a successful career in Journalism.  To this end, we put on a range of extracurricular events to enhance your experience as a student with us. We encourage you to take part in mock press conferences in simulation days, where we team up with local organisations to simulate various newsworthy events.  Students find these days to be hugely beneficial, as they provide hands on experience of what it’s like to work as a front line journalist.

In addition to your lectures, seminars, and workshops which form the taught part of your units, we put on a range of cutting edge lecture series and workshops, which we encourage you to attend.  In 2010, we hosted the hugely popular Approaches to Journalism lecture series, including lectures from Blake Morrison and Olly Lambert.  We also put on lunchtime lectures where various guest lecturers talk about a range of aspects of journalism today.

We’re not always this serious, though, and we even throw the odd party.
